Friday 20/10/06. Mum gives birth to 4 babies in Sanctuary!
At 9 am we found a pregnant Mum in our Mother & Baby going into into labour. Unfortunately she needed expert care as they were all breech birth. The first baby died probably because Mum had started before we could get to her and it was coming out backwards. Still, with Kathie's expert attention by 1pm she had 4 healthy babies (all tabbies). They will be up for reservation by End November and ready to go just before Christmas. Meanwhile, we still have MANY kittens available ready to go (in pairs only), of all colours.

Outside Boarding Units Winterised.
Although all our Sanctuary and Boarding pens are all insulated way beyond normal, to minimise on heating costs, our Family Boarding Pen 10 (very popular with our clients due to its size and location), is situated outside the main boarding building and overlooks the lawns. To prepare for winter, the removable glazing was re-fitted today, and the double bedding area heating was installed to give extra comfort on a cold day. The new East London RSPCA pens (Pens 11-14) also had a skirting heater installed, connected to a time clock. We have noticed already though that due to the thorough inulation very little heating is needed to keep all areas at a comfortable temperature. All goes to show ... Government advice on home insulation has its point! Builders are due to start Wednesday adding a small extension to Pen 10, to give the cats access to the outside in a roofed safety run.
